Ron Chapman Ron Chapman, Jr., a shareholder in the firm, is Board Certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He represents employers in all areas of labor and employment law, including employment contracts, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour compliance, non-competition and non-disclosure covenants, leaves of absence, unfair labor practices, union campaigns, collective bargaining, and workplace safety issues. He regularly represents clients in state and federal courts and administrative agencies throughout the United States, having made appearances on behalf of clients in more than 25 states, Washington D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Based on a survey of over 90,000 attorneys and a Blue Ribbon Panel study, Texas Monthly magazine named Mr. Chapman one of the state's "Super Lawyers." Similarly, D Magazine repeatedly has named Mr. Chapman one of ADallas= Best Lawyers Under 40." He has defended employers successfully against claims arising under Title VII, Title IX, Titles I and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the Rehabilitation Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family & Medical Leave Act, the National Labor Relations Act, the Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification Act, the Polygraph Protection Act, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, the Occupational Safety & Health Act, and many state and local anti-discrimination statutes and ordinances, as well as non-statutory claims such as breach of contract, wrongful discharge, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, invasion of privacy, and negligent hiring, supervision, retention, training, and investigation. Mr. Chapman also has broad experience both pursuing and defending claims pertaining to restrictive covenants, such as covenants not to compete, non-solicitation covenants, non-recruitment covenants, and covenants not to disclose or utilize trade secrets and confidential information. Finally, Mr. Chapman routinely advises clients with respect to employee issues and strategies, including discipline matters, termination decisions, handbooks, policies, and contracts, and provides training programs to employers on a variety of topics related to human resources. Mr. Chapman received his B.A. in behavioral sciences and political science from Rice University in 1992, graduating cum laude. He then attended SMU School of Law on a full merit scholarship. He received his J.D. in 1995, graduating cum laude and as a member of the Order of the Coif. After law school, Mr. Chapman served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Robert M. Parker on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Chapman is a member of the Board of Directors for the North Dallas
Chamber of Commerce, served as its Legal Counsel from 1999-2002, won the
Paul Hanson Award for Volunteer of the Year in 2002 based on his innovative
efforts to advise the business community of labor and employment law issues,
and currently serves as the Chairman of the Chamber's Community Affairs
Council. Pursuant to an appointment by the Dallas City Council, Mr. Chapman
also serves as a member of the city's Civil Service Commission, which
considers disputes regarding personnel issues.
